ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION
The Association of Family Business Enterprises (AFBE) is the first member based, independent, non- governmental and non -political association run by and for family business owners. Family businesses have been the dominant business entity in the Kenyan society for decades. In Kenya today it is estimated that family businesses account for about 75% of commerce in the regions in which they operate and as such have a transformational impact in economies of these regions through creation of wealth and employment. Therefore the importance of the sustainability of family businesses cannot be underscored. However, in Kenya many family businesses do not survive past the second or third generation. The Association aims at strengthening the success of family owned businesses over generations. W AFBE engages family business owners through various activities such as conferences, business clinics, seminars and trainings on topical issues relating to family businesses. We provide members with a safe place to share experiences, skills, knowledge and support systems to address common issues that affect these entities such as governance and succession planning for sustainability. We are a diverse group of over 100 family businesses representing most business sectors in Kenya.
